Hydraulic Hoses

Selecting the proper hose for a hydraulic assembly is absolutely critical to ensure that the assembly is going to function properly and safely on the application. One of the first steps in selecting the proper hose is to determine the reinforcement that is needed. The reinforcement is the muscle of all hydraulic hoses; it determines the working pressure of the hose. It is either
1.) a braid or
2.) a spiral wrap and is made from natural fibers, synthetic materials or wire.
Some hoses have a reinforcement that is a combination of fiber and wire, or multiple layers of wire braids or spiral layers.

Very High/Extremely High-Pressure Hose:
Very-high and extremely-high pressure hoses perform best on applications that are subject to extreme high impulses (or pressure surges) such as off highway equipment and heavy-duty machinery. These hoses are reinforced with four or six layers of spiraled, high-tensile steel wire over a layer of yarn braid.

High-Pressure Hose:
Reinforced with two steel wire braids, these are often called “two-wire” braid hoses. You’ll find them in high-pressure applications, such as on construction equipment. They range in operating pressures from 6000 psi (3/16” ID) to 1825 psi (2” ID).

Medium-Pressure Hose:
Operating at pressures from 3000 psi to 300 psi, these hoses can have one-wire, multiple-wire and/or textile-braid construction.

Low-Pressure Hose:
You’ll find these hoses in applications with operating pressures under 300 psi. Typically they’re used to transmit petroleum-based fluids, lubricating oil, air, glycol anti-freeze and water. Gates GMV hose is also rated for suction applications.

High Temperature Hoses

Introducing G2XH, M4KH and M3KH hoses for high-pressure hydraulic applications.
Three new high-temperature & high-performing hoses
The characteristics, quality and maintenance of hydraulic fluid have a great impact on mobile hydraulic systems and their ability to function properly. Gates new high-temperature hoses, G2XH, M4KH and M3KH, were developed to ensure that these high-pressure hydraulic systems perform their best — especially under extreme temperatures.

G2XH:
For high-pressure hydraulic applications where pressure or temperature requirements exceed SAE 100R2/EN 853, G2XH is the perfect solution. This two-wire braid hose has a 2,500 to 6,000 psi operating pressure and interior black tube that is specifically compounded for temperature and chemical resistance. G2XH will handle petroleum-base fluids from -40° F to +300° F (-40° C to +149° C), and phosphate ester fluids within a range of -40° F to +212° F (-40° C to +100° C).

M4KH:
The new M4KH hose is ideal for high-pressure hydraulic applications. It has a 4,000 psi operating pressure and can be used for temperatures ranging from -40° F to +250° F (-40° C to +121° C). Constructed of two braids of high-tensile steel wire, M4KH meets U.S. MSHA 2G flame resistant requirements.

M3KH :
Use M3KH on high-pressure hydraulic oil lines with temperatures ranging from -40° F to +250° F (-40° C to +121° C). This hose is reinforced with one or two braids of high-tensile steel wire. It has a 3,000 psi operating pressure in all sizes and meets SAE 100R17 and EN 857 1SC performance requirements. The M3KH hose has smaller exterior dimensions and significantly tighter bend radius than other SAE 100R1 and 100R2 hose.

High-Temperature:
Mobile hydraulic systems are exposed to ambient outdoor temperature conditions, as well as the elements, so they must be able to operate under a wide range of temperatures and conditions. In the southern United States for example, ambient conditions can reach 130° F, making it difficult to limit the fluid temperature to less than 140° F. Gates high-temperature hoses can withstand temperatures from 250° F to more than 300° F, making them the ideal choice for high-pressure hydraulic applications.
